I
can't believe I missed you, by one day!??
I'm presently in Shasta, here for a couple more days,
then back to L.A.
Hey, Tor! I finally got a 'good' recording deal! When I
return to L.A., I start to record. My album; my music,
so, it is truly a phenomenal time for me!
I will be recording out of Conway Studio.

As
a recently " born again " older sailor, whose
sole experience has been purely on inland water, I have
been thoroughly enjoying tales of your experiences on
the high seas ----- something I wished I had done when I
was more physically able. However you are giving me hope
that one day I shall share with you that ultimate test
------- sailing with my back to the coast.
Well done, and more strength to your pen !

Tor!
It was great chatting with you the other day. We are
looking forward to our up coming visit. Your travel log
always keeps us smiling. Right now there is a large tent
out back where they had a dinner party the other
night...fresh lobster. We know you would have had a hand
in it! See you soon. Tiff

Hi
to you Tor,
I just finished your book Ready for Sea, only one part
in the book that I didn't agree total with you.
Provisioning for the long trip/live aboard. I think its
much better to buy and taste all the wonderful foods
along the way. To buy and cook like the locials cook
with their spices there techniques ie smells too.
PS I have a golden retriver named Schooner, great pooch.
He even knows the comand "to come about" and
then he moves to the high side, makes me laugh every
time we go sailing.

Hi
Tor: I was going through my favorite places and came
upon your link. Looks like you are continuing to make
life a better place to be. The skiing was great last
winter. Summer is here, and this time I have the time to
start doing some serious hiking again. If you plan on
being in the Placerville - Tahoe area, give me a call
and we can go have a beer or two and listen to the
eagles. (Not the ones with Glen Frye). I saw a post from
PinneySr. If this is your dad, tell him I said hello.

just came across your homepage while looking thru
listings in the Newport area. I am interested in a
mid-life career change ( becoming a yacht broker), and
was looking over brokerage websites for possible
guidance. You seem to have found the dreamlife. Best of
luck to you, and I will be reading thru you stories and
boating tips. We are never too old to

Tor,
I find your background and adventures very interesting.
I am a professor of entrepreneurship at Johnson &
Wales University in Rhode Island and would really
appreciate the opportunity to speak to you in person.
Are you in the RI area during the month on June? If not,
is there some way we could have a telephone
conversation?
The two topics I would like to speak to you about are:
- Possibly speaking to entrepreneurial students @ JWU
- An incentive marketing package designed for high
ticket priced items.
Hope to hear from you,

Hi
there Tor, I just wanted to say that I very much enjoyed
the excerpts from your book. I am finally sucmming to
the call of the sea and attempting the transition from
land to a marine based life style I am at the stage of
trying to decide what type of boat to purchase (I'm not
ready yet) I have been eyeing the peterson 46's, any
suggestions? I plan to single hand which ever boat I end
up with so that is a consideration.
Anyway great stuff really enjoyed the passages from your
book. Thanks.

Well it was some time in the eaarly seventies when we
first met. I had a Folk boat and was running from a bad
relationship. I found my way to the anchorage at Dinner
Key and wile exploring that little island found you
asleep in an old boat which may have been the old life
boat. I was maybe 23 fresh out of the Marines and had
grown up in Ft Lauderdale so this was all natural to me.
You were about as rough as an Austrailian pines bark and
that brown. We sailed your little boat or someones
little gaff rig and with a few girls and some party
favors took a spin to Stiltsville we had a hell of a
good time until the afternoon squawls came chasing us
back to the ancorage. We had her healed over a few times
but made very little of it so as to impress the ladies
that we were all hardy sailors.
Well I now live in New Orleans and am getting ready to
go sailing again after a few years in the mountains of
Colorado. I like you spent my whole life in the marine
trades and never regreted one minute of cold tuna from
the can and all the tough times when we were young. I
always wondered what it was like to live on that little
island by Dinner Key that the last time I saw it had
turned into a dump ground. My best wishes I always
remembered you over the years as a true sailor and was
happy to know you were with Pasific Sea Craft and doing
well.Hell Of a far cry from Dinner Key hey.

Came
across your site while surfing Crealock info. I have a
1984 Crealock 34 currently at Hog Island while I am in
Canada in my "cozy log cabin" for a summer of
paragliding, kiteboarding, building things on my land
and cruising in the camper van. Back to a skippering
season next month down in the islands. An adventurous
life has it's ups and downs but is pretty darn good as
I'm sure you'll agree. Came across the Sparrow name -
maybe Ian on Manxcat told me about you. All the best!

Greetings
Tor, My sister Jodie sent me your website She thought I
might find it interesting. I sure did. What an amazing
life you have lead. I believe I saw you at the Miami
boat show a few years ago. My ex and I were there
looking to buy a boat. We ended up with a 45 ft Morgan.
We spent the first few yrs of marriage living aboard a
24 ft sailboat. I have to say, those were the best of
times. I graduated from MHS with your sister Sara and
remeber taking a few art classes from your mother down
at the Bevan Hotel. I hope this email finds you and all
of your family healthy and as happy as you seem to be.
take care and happy crusing

plan to purchase several copies of your book as gifts

Congratulations on a fine website. Useful stuff, too!
Found it thru a Google search while I was looking for
routing info between the Virgin Islands and US East
Coast (gonna be bringing my 42' sloop back in May-June
to the Chesapeake after 10 years in the Virgin Islands
and Eastern Caribbean).
I sailed down the easy way: from Norfolk to Bermuda to
Tortola. Not sure of routing on way back; I'd like to
visit a few spots in the Bahamas since I've never sailed
there. Thinking about St Thomas to George Town, Exuma
direct, then up thru islands to Gulf Stream off Boca
Raton and on up to the Chesapeake.
Best,
Bill

I eventually did become aware of an older Crealock 37
with the name Kerry Dancer, which predated the 1983 boat
I owned, but not until after I had named my boat. I was
the Pacific Seacraft dealer in Florida back then, and
that '83 boat was my demo boat (and home) until the end
of 1987. Because she was always intended for boat shows
and eventual re-sale, I never put her name on the
transom. I just called her Kerry Dancer. And when I
found out about there being another, earlier Crealock 37
with the same name, I shortened my boat's name to Kerry.
I came up with the name from my old rock-n-roll band
days, when one of my band members wrote, and I recorded,
a song called, "The Days of the Kerry
Dancers", and I liked the sound of it. However, it
is just possible that I may have seen your boat in
Kemah/Seabrook back around 1980, because I was there for
a while then, and it may be that the name just stuck
with me subconsciously as a good name for a Crealock 37.
To this day, I'm honestly not certain about that.
Anyway, I sold Kerry (ex-Kerry Dancer) when I got my
1988 Crealock 37, Sparrow (named after the famous
calypsonian singer-songwriter, The Mighty Sparrow), and
Kerry was renamed Sally Forth.
As for the owner’s wife that ran off to Florida and
married someone with money, it obviously wasn't me. I
didn't have any money back then, and don't have enough
now to get a woman to run off with me, let alone buy her
a boat.
Reef Early,
Tor

A
friend emailed me with your website because of the name
of your early Crealock 37, Kerry Dancer. I currently own
the original Kerry Dancer, #14, built in 1978. There was
a story that the original owner’s wife ran off to
Florida and married someone with money. They ordered
another Crealock 37 and named it Kerry Dancer also. Now
I find this namesake as well. We are gearing up for the
annual Kerry Dancer/St. Patrick’s Day party. This will
be the 16th annual party as we have owned the boat that
long. Just out of curiosity, I would appreciate any
information you may have concerning your original boat.
What a coincidence.

Hi
Tor,
Dreaming about owning a 60 foot or so motoryacht or
cruiser in the next few years, and cruising around the
world for some time.
Been doing heaps of stuff to make the world a nicer and
better place (well on the Internet), and I figure it'll
be a good way to retire for a few years.
:)
Regards and best wishes,

Hi
Tor
Great website, pics, prose - hey, great life!
Good to see pics of you, Bev, Lisa, Roy, Sara, and your
Dad and Mom.
Hope you get your music links up soon. Are you still in
a band? (How could you find time!)
I'm living in Texas, family kids, pretty mundane. I've
been a manager for a specialty contractor for the last
25 years. No music, but I'm into digital photography.
You have truly had the photo-opportunity-of-a-lifetime
lifetime! Awesome. Great pics.
Roy called me last year out of the blue. It was nice to
hear from him.
Take care, Tor.

Hello
Tor,
Sparrow is in Fiji and in perfect shape. She is the best
sailboat we could have wished for, and already seven...(jee,
time flies) years our companion in many seamiles, from
Bermuda to Europe, from the Canaries to Carib, from
there to Panama and all over the Pacific. She still
looks great (we modestly think even better) and is a joy
to sail. Could not resist writing you,
John.

Hello
Tor, I quite enjoyed your web site; pics, tips and
stories. All very enjoyable. Reads like you've done a
lot
of what I have day dreamed of doing for 20
years....school,
work, career, family have all had a delaying effect on
these "dreams". This has not stopped me from
"collecting"
some of what will be required, diesel engine, mast,
sails,
stainless harware and varitable cornucopia of marine
accessories.....A hull, and I shall be on my way, I just
need to convince the wife to come....or do I?
Any way thanks for the read.
Cheers

Hi,
was just taking a trip down memory lane and came across
your web-site. I was looking specifically for cruisers
who've been cruising since the '80s and you're the first
I've come across. I lived on a 30ft Islander (Bungarye)with
my parents 1978-1986 and we spent 2 1/2 years in Central
America. We left San Diego in '79 and visited Mexico,
Costa
Rica, Panama, Honduras and Belize. After cruising the
East
Coast of the US, I graduated high school in Crescent
City,
Fl served in the Navy (aviation)for 10 years during
which
time I visited Hawaii, Iceland, England, Turkey, Israel,
Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Sicily, Italy, Spain, Chile,
Argentina, etc. If our paths didn't cross, I'm sure we
have
mutual friends. I now live in Hollywood, FL with my
husband
and 5 yr old daughter. Would love to hear from you. I am
enjoying your site immensely and am looking forward to
many
more visits in the future. Thank you for sharing you
life
with us.
